Our Fernie shop has been open for almost 3 years following the start of the legalization and regulation of recreational cannabis. We have experienced so much growth and change, we are excited to share our progress with you!
As any cannabis retailer will tell you, it is a huge struggle to get approved for licensing and sales. The amount of red tape to be sifted through is intense and can be a major obstacle for a lot of potential retail space operators.
Most retailers need to find a secure and discrete space to fit their needs, and then the space needs to be renovated and outfitted to comply with cannabis retail regulations. Not to mention the red tape behind retail licensing. It’s a lengthy process, to say the least…
Every space has its own individual style. It’s important to consider the vibe and atmosphere of your space, and we wanted to share a chill but vibrant location. Spacious, with great lighting and a natural feel.
Anyone familiar with Fernie can tell you about the history of our building. For many years it was the location of the town laundromat and was an informal meeting space for a lot of people in the neighbourhood. We started by making the interior into a fresh palette on which to create our vision.
Such an iconic landmark is always a fitting space for cannabis, building on local history and culture. We took this opportunity to update and elevate this beloved building into a retail space that would make our neighbours proud. Because the building had been sitting unused for quite a few years we had our work cut out for us.
We settled on a background of botanicals, blues, greens, and natural wood accents. All of the wood for the counter space was salvaged from an old fallen barn that was just outside the city of Cranbrook nearby. We were fortunate to find some retired bee boxes for our display case supports. Our new space was starting to come together.
Part of our renovation included a reconstruction of the apartment upstairs from the shop. We are thankful to have such wonderful neighbours upstairs. Another addition to our address has been Graffito Pizza bringing in their pizza trailer. It’s awesome to see a true Neopolitan-style pizza flourish in our lovely mountain town.
In the past 3 years, we have experienced a tremendous amount of growth and change. We are proud of our space and proud of our vibrant team of Budtenders who help us continue to grow and thrive!
